What the hell?!

Can anyone explain me what is happening in the Olympics Games?  I'm thinking... Spain, in Beijing 2008 won 18 medals. But, in London 2012 we have 3! Only 3! And the strangest thing is, any medal is of gold! OK, doesn't matter, we are going to win more (I'm joking). This year I go with The USA and Australia, the most beautiful countries in the world (After Spain, of course). If anyone knows what is happening, please, comment it. I need answers!!
